Biomass is a word that is used quite commonly as a synonym to a few different things today. Basically it is stored solar energy via photosynthesis. Biomass is something that grows and stores solar energy, from which we can then extract that energy by a set of different processes. So Biomass is the raw material unless it is used for food or fiber. Regarded as a fuel biomass is itself a solid fuel that can be converted into other types of fuel, it is stored solar energy that might be used for societies of today.
