QTRF4 - Quantum Theory: Reconsideration of Foundations, 4
at Växjö University, June 11-16, 2007
Arranged by ICMM - International Centre for Mathematical Modelling in physics, engineering and cognitive sciences - at Växjö University, Sweden.
Poster QTRF4
This is the fourth conference arranged by ICMM which is devoted to quantum foundations, especially clarification of fundamental questions. The first three conferences took place in 2001, 2003, and 2005. Some closely related conferences are Bohmian Mechanics 2000 and Foundations of probability and Physics 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, see http://www.vxu.se/msi/aktuellt/konferens/index.xml
This conference is devoted to the 80 years of the Copenhagen Interpretation. There are plans to discuss the relevance of the Copenhagen interpretation for the present understanding of quantum mechanics.
During previous conferences we were lucky to collect fruitful mixtures of physicists (including experimenters), mathematicians and even philosophers interested in foundations. Fundamental questions of quantum mechanics, especially information theory, quantum computing, cryptography, and teleportation are important topics at the conference.
Quantum fluctuations (in the form of SED or other approaches to stochastic quantum mechanics) always play a fundamental role (especially in debates). Even adherents of Bohmian mechanics and the many-worlds interpretation are warmly welcome. We also hope to have talks on completeness and incompleteness of quantum mechanics, macroscopic quantum systems, experiments on quantum nonlocality and locality, Bell's inequality, quantum probability, entanglement, quantum computing and cryptography technologies, philosophic problems, and mathematical formalism.

Which files should be sent to the editors?
All files should be sent to

email: gad@msi.vxu.se
Note that the e-mail address that was given during the conference is not working, use the one given above instead!
- Send an electronic version of your manuscript by email to Guillaume ADENIER. AIP preferred file type for the manuscript is Postscript files (PS), but PDF files are also accepted. However, experience tells us that there is almost always something to be fixed in every manuscript, so that it is strongly recommended that you send us your source files as well (either your LaTex file with figures and tables, or your MS-Word file).
- A signed hardcopy of your Transfer of Copyright Agreement is mandatory. The blank form is available at http://proceedings.aip.org/proceedings/tca_blank.pdf
If you have not already signed it during the conference, please print this blank form, sign it and send it to us by regular mail.
- If you plan to use previously published material from a book or journal, please use the request for permission to reprint published material: http://proceedings.aip.org/proceedings/permission.pdf
PREPARING YOUR MANUSCRIPT
To see exactly how a paper should look like, and see all stylistic instructions mentioned explicitly, please print and read carefully the file 8x11singlesample.pdf, available at:
http://scitation.aip.org/journals/doc/APCPCS-home/8x11singlesample.pdf
Note that the "Shrink oversized pages to paper size" option (in the print tab) should be unchecked so that the exact format with correct font sizes and margins is printed.
Instructions and tips for LATEX users:
If you use LaTex, the macros can be found on this page at:
ftp://ftp.aip.org/ems/tex/macros/proceedings/8.5x11/aipproc_8s.zip
(Typically, the macros should be extracted in your main exmf folder.)
The PDF guide describing how to use this LaTex class (aipproc) can be found at:
ftp://ftp.aip.org/ems/tex/macros/proceedings/8.5x11/aipguide-8s.pdf
Note that PACS and Keywords are required in the new AIP style. If they don't appear when you compile your tex file, try downloading and installing the latest AIP class.
Instructions for MS-WORD users
A word of caution first: we do not recommend using MS-WORD to type manuscripts with equations and/or figures. Experience tells us that manuscripts written with MS-WORD usually require a lot of work to make them comply with AIP requirements. LaTex is a much better choice (see the next section on an easy solution to install LaTex on any PC).
In order to type your manuscript with the proper format, you will need to install the following template:
ftp://ftp.aip.org/ems/word/ibm/word97/proceedings/8X11_single_column.dot
The procedure to install this template and properly start a new paper is described in toolkit_guide.doc:
ftp://ftp.aip.org/ems/word/ibm/word97/proceedings/toolkit_guide.doc
The whole procedure can be a little bit awkward, but it is the only way to obtain a manuscript that does comply exactly with AIP instructions when using MS Word.
If you have already started writing your article without using the AIP template, it is also possible apply the predefined AIP style to your existing document, but we really recommend starting a new one following the toolkit instruction.
Installing LaTex on your own PC
If you are tired of wasting time with Microsoft Word but never dared to try using LaTex, here is a simple solution to install LaTex on any PC:
Install MikTex. It will install all required files to compile your LaTex manuscript. The Basic installer is very easy to install and can be downloaded at:
http://www.miktex.org/2.6/Setup.aspx
Use it together with a text editor such as WinEdt, downloadable at
http://www.winedt.com
The combination of these two softwares provide a powerful and user friendly set up to create and compile LaTex files.
- to convert DVI files to PS, use DVIPS with the option "-t letter".
- to convert MS-Word file to PDF, print your file as PDF. Note that the "Shrink oversized pages to paper size" option (in the print tab) should be unchecked . If you used the A4 template, you’ll need to select the option "Scale to paper size: A4" when printing (and when converting to PDF as well).
Feel free to contact Guillaume Adenier if you have any questions.
