The Writing Lab is a resource in the academic writing of both undergraduate and doctoral students. The staff of the Writing Lab consists of text consultants who provide advice and guidance in the students’ writing process. Below are some of the most frequently discussed issues:

  • How should I structure my text?
  • Is the formality level of my text adequate?
  • How can I express myself more clearly?
  • How do I cite and refer to secondary sources correctly?
The Writing Lab welcomes students to its open-house hours and to individual or group text tutorials. In addition, you may consult us briefly via e-mail on your essay, degree project or thesis.

Open-house
The Writing Lab has open-house hours several times a week, when we answer brief questions related to academic writing. On these occasions you may also consult the literature available in The Writing Lab, such as glossaries, dictionaries, various writing resources as well as good examples of student essays, degree projects and theses.

Text tutorials
During these open-house hours you may book a time slot for individual or group tutorial. You may also call or send an email to The Writing Lab.

Introductory lectures
The Writing Lab organises introductory lectures on academic writing as well as information sessions regarding our services. Course coordinators may book such lectures for various groups of students.

Academic writing courses for doctoral candidates
The Writing Lab organises yearly two courses in academic writing for the university’s doctoral candidates. One of these courses deals with thesis writing, while the second course deals with writing academic texts in English.
