About this Conference:

Welcome to the conference “Bodies – Arts – Crossroads”! The aim of the conference is to investigate the body from an intermedial/interartial perspective. This theme incorporates various traditional art forms and new media and the focus is on the relations between image, music and words. Highlighted aspects are the production and reception of diverse art forms with emphasis on the role of the body in creativity, perception, and interpretation of visual art, music, literature, film, video, dance architecture etc., as well as questions concerning how bodies are shaped, formed, and described in different media, or how body ideals and values are expressed and changed, in one or many works of art, contemporary or historical. Other topics are the social function of the body, from a gender perspective, and the physical body as a sign or metaphor. Overall aesthetic perspectives on concepts and categories of description and valuation crossing the borders of the art forms are also within the scope of the conference.

Official languages of the conference will be English, Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish.

The conference is supported by The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation.
