Being a student in Växjö

Student housing, university premises, library, restaurants, pubs, lakes and open-air fields are all within five minutes’ walk between each other. There is even a genuine castle round the corner.  

As a  student in Växjö you take part in the development of the campus by being engaged in the student union, student associations and leisure activities. This is for your benefit as well as for future students.

Campus in Växjö is full of life and vitality – a meeting-ground for all students and interests, even if you prefer to live somewhere else.

The creative campus environment attracts people as well as businesses. There is a Videum Science Park on campus which keeps growing all the time. At Växjö University you can get in touch with industry and test your own ideas. The Drivhuset (’Greenhouse’) Foundation will boost your professional career dreams.

Entertainment of various kinds is not far way. On campus there are two student pubs plus one in downtown Växjö – the student nations and associations see to it that you are kept busy in your spare time.

The Vugi sports club will keep you fit. In addition to its own activities the club cooperates with other Växjö clubs and companies to be able to offer you a good selection of aerobics, basketball, massage, rugby, tennis and volleyball.

The nature surrounding campus invites you to fill your oxygen tank. Strolling to the castle or round the lake keeps you fit. If you feel lonely – step into your inlines and take a turn round Lake Växjösjön. 

Campus is the world in a nutshell. You can easily obtain an insight into Japanese cooking, British humour and French pronunciation because of the exchange students who set their stamp on university life.  You can also go on export yourself for a year. International work experience is the rule rather than the exception in Växjö.

A lot of people get together on campus: economists, educationalists, technicians, police officers and nurses. Some meet in the early morning hours in the university library. Others come together in one of the attractive galleries made for improvement and recreation.

"The chief task of the union is to safeguard educational quality. The union should be a counterpoise to the university, the municipality and other groups that may explore or affect the student situation.”

The union staff will also help students when they are in search of a place to live and when CSN (the Central Student Grants Committee) is being uncooperative.  
Besides, the student union runs Slottsstallarna, the student pub, operates its own radio broadcasting channel and publishes a student magazine.
