Accommodation Officer

All exchange students are guaranteed accommodation on the condition that the accommodation section of the online exchange application is completed.

Please note:
** We cannot provide you with your address prior to arrival! **

Accommodation in Växjö is provided in two areas of the city (on campus and in the city centre), in student or private housing.
Please note that you are not able to reserve housing in a specific area on your application.

Rooms and apartments are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that those students who submit their complete applications early will be placed first.

On request from both Swedish and international students, we strive to mix students as much as possible. This means nationality, gender and age are taken into consideration when distributing rooms.

Internet connections
The majority of student rooms have an Internet connection. However, the International Office cannot guarantee Internet connections as there are several rooms without this service. There is always the possibility of using the computer labs or your own laptop on campus.

Housing options
Students are offered accommodation in apartments shared by two students, private dorm rooms, or private apartments.
Average estimated cost per month for the 2009/2010 academic year is

  • shared apartment, 2000 SEK
  • private dorm room with private bathroom, 3000-4000 SEK
  • private apartment, 4000 SEK

There are a few less expensive rooms as well as a few which are more expensive.

Sharing an apartment
We are very happy to announce that as of autumn semester 2009, the University has increased the number of shared apartments available on campus. This means we are able to offer an additional 150 exchange students on-campus housing.

Shared apartments available to exchange students are studio (one-room) apartments shared by two students. All apartments are located in our newest residence buildings and include a private kitchenette and bathroom. The library, classrooms, computer labs, and the student pub are all a couple of minutes away by foot. Sharing an apartment is a chance to live on campus, and a good way to get to know a fellow exchange student well. It is also the least expensive accommodation alternative.

Dorm rooms cannot be shared with another student.

Deposit
Exchange students at Växjö University rent accommodation from several different housing providers. Some providers request a damage deposit at the beginning of the lease. The deposit consists of one month's rent and is payable when making the first rent payment on arrival. Your deposit will be refunded at the end of your exchange, if your accommodation is returned to the housing provider in the same condition it was let to you and you have paid all outstanding rent.

Non-exchange students
Växjö University cannot assist in arranging accommodation for non-exchange international students (freemover students). The Student Union keeps a list of private rooms and some student apartments.
Please contact the Student Union at bostad@siv.vxu.se for more information.
