Exchange Students
Please note that as from January 1, 2010 Växjö University and the University of Kalmar have merged and formed a new university - Linnaeus University. Please visit our new web page at lnu.se.
New University - New Opportunities!
Welcome to Linnaeus University in 2010!
Växjö University and Kalmar University College are planning a merger. The proposed name of the new university is Linnaeus University. The new name aims to encourage curiosity, new thinking and innovation, much like its namesake Carl Linnaeus (the Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist).
Linnaeus University will open its doors on 1 January 2010.
Linnaeus University will be a modern, international university. The merger is an important step to increase the level of specialized, high quality education and research in the region. Promoting collaboration between the University, businesses and other organisations is one way to achieve this goal.
The merger will establish a university focused on quality and competitiveness. With campuses in Växjö and Kalmar, Linnaeus University will be a fully-integrated, multi-campus university with joint goals and visions. A prime focus will be to gain visibility by building a stronger research environment thus generating greater impacts. With 25 000 students and 2000 employees, the new university will develop new forms of collaboration with the surrounding community.
Please note that any students who wish to apply for an exchange during the 2009/2010 academic year through one of Växjö University’s partner universities will be required to apply to and study at the Växjö campus. However, academic transcripts from the 2009/2010 academic year will be issued by Linnaeus University. In addition, degree-seeking students who have completed their studies after January 1, 2010 will receive their degrees from Linnaeus University.
Any new or updated information will be shared with partner universities and exchange students throughout 2009.
Växjö University has an extensive cooperation with universities through different programmes and bilateral agreements. Admission of exchange is granted to those students who are qualified to the chosen course of study and recommended by their home university which must have a formal exchange agreement with Växjö University. More exchange students offered on-campus housing in the 2009/2010 academic year!
In previous years, many exchange students whom were not offered on-campus accommodation expressed a wish to live on campus, with easy access to classes, the library, friends, and social activities. We are happy to announce that as of autumn semester 2009, the University has increased the number of on-campus apartments available to exchange students. We are now able to offer an additional 150 exchange students on-campus housing in shared apartments. All apartments are located in our newest residence buildings and include a private kitchenette and bathroom.
