SAA417 - The Elderly in Modern Society

September 2006 and January 2007
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)

The aim of the course is for the student to study and analyse condi­tions and circumstances under which elderly people live in Sweden and other countries. A further aim is for the student to gain knowledge of the normal ageing process, the inuences of heredity and environment and also age-related disorders.

  • Living conditions for the elderly in different societies
  • Different perspectives on the ageing process

Teaching methods
The teaching is based on the student actively seeking knowledge.

A variety of teaching methods will be used, for instance literature studies, seminars and tutorials.

Prerequisites for exchange students
We expect you to have at least one year of university studies. You should be able to speak English uently, as well as read and write university level texts in English.

SAA419 - Social Work in an Intercultural Perspective

October 2006 and February 2007
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)

The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of how different living and views on health and social problems in different parts of the world inuence the development of society, social services and health. A further aim is to increase the un­derstanding of how co-operation in social services and health promotion can be developed.

  • The development of society, popula­tion, health and social problems
  • The importance of living conditions in population and health development
  • Comparisons of health and develop­ment of health and social services in different parts of the world
  • Structural prerequisites for health and social services such as service organisation, economics, policies and communications

SAA418 - Social Work – Different Perspectives

November 2006 and March 2007
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)

The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge of different practical ways of meeting problems in the so­cial work eld in Sweden. The object is to gain a greater understanding of a specic sphere of activities and to analyse these.

Contents
Field studies in a specic area of interest for 11 days

  • Supervision
  • Writing a report
  • Examination

Teaching methods
The teaching is based on supervision of practical studies. The supervision in­cludes group discussions and individual supervision.

Prerequisites for exchange students
We expect you to have at least one year of university studies. You should be able to speak English uently, as well as read and write university level texts in English.

SAA424 - Welfare Policy in Sweden

November 2006 and May 2007
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)

The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of the Swedish welfare system with a focus on the historical development, structure and function. A further aim is to develop knowledge about how national and international changes create social problems and social needs.

  • Social policy in an international perspective
  • Current problems in the Swedish welfare system
