As an exchange student you have the opportunity to study Nursing for one whole semester.
VOA491 - The Elderly in Modern Society
September 2006 and January 2007
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)
The aim of the course is for the student to study and analyse conditions and circumstances under which elderly people live. A further aim is for the student to gain knowledge of the normal ageing process, the influences of heredity and environment and also age-related disorders.
Contents
- Demography, migration and population trends.
- Living conditions for the elderly in different societies.
- Different perspectives on the ageing process
Teaching methods
The teaching is based on the student actively seeking knowledge. A variety of teaching methods will be used, for instance literature studies, seminars and tutorials.
Prerequisites for exchange students
We expect you to have at least one year of university studies. You should be able to speak English fluently, as well as read and write university level texts in English.

Assessment methods
Individual assessment based on a written examination.
VOA492 - Welfare Policy in Sweden
Caring Science with a Focus on Nursing
November 2006 and May 2007
5 credit points (7,5 ECTS)
The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of the Swedish welfare system with a focus on the historical development, structure and function. A further aim is to develop knowledge about how national and international changes create social problems and social needs.
Contents
- The growth of the Swedish welfare state
- Structure and development trends in the Swedish welfare state
- Social policy in an international perspective
- Current problems in the Swedish welfare system
Teaching methods
A variety of teaching methods will be used, for instance literature studies, seminars and tutorials.
Prerequisites for exchange students
We expect you to have at least one year of university studies. You should be able to speak English fluently, as well as read and write university level texts in English.

VOC462 - Health Care in an Intercultural Perspective
Caring Science with a Focus on Nursing
October, 2006 and February, 2007
The course can be studied as a full-time (5 weeks) or a part-time (10 weeks) course module
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)
The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of how different living conditions and views on health in different parts of the world influence the development of society, health and the population as well as of how co-operation in health promotion may be developed.
Contents
- The development of society, population and health
- The importance of living conditions in population and health development
- Comparisons of health and the development of health in different parts of the world
- Structural prerequisites for health, such as the organisation of health care, economics, politics and communications
- Anthropological perspectives: different attitudes towards individuals, organisations, health and diseases
- International co-operation and health promotional issues
Teaching methods
A variety of teaching methods will be used, for example survey lectures, literature studies, tutorials and field studies. The field studies in Sweden for exchange students and abroad for Swedish students should cover about 3 weeks and are to be documented in a written report.

The assessment of the student’s individual achievement will be based on the tutorials and a written report from the field study.

VOC466 - Optional Choice of Context
Caring Science with a Focus on Nursing
November, 2006 and March, 2007
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)
From a foundation in the nursing process and an interdisciplinary approach the aim of the module is for the student to gain greater knowledge in one specific area of nursing from a patient perspective. The course will be adapted to the student choice of area within the normal work sphere of a general nurse.
Contents
The contents of the module are formed from the aims of the module and the student’s choice of nursing situation or problem.
Teaching methods
A variety of teaching methods will be used, for instance field studies, literature studies and tutorials.

Assessment methods
The assessment is based on the student’s written report and/or an oral examination.
