The aim is to give the student a broad introduction to Swedish forestry.

Contents
The course includes the following areas:

  • Swedish forests and forestry in figures
  • Silviculture
  • Forest management
  • Nature conservation
  • Excursions
  • Small project work

Teaching methods
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars and excursions.

Assessment methods
The examination is based on a written or oral test concluding the course. Additional opportunities will be given to students who do not pass the examination successfully. A further requirement is an individual project work.

Prerequisites
One year’s study at university level. A sufficient knowledge of the English language.


TSC932 - Operational Efficiency

The aim is to give the student knowledge of technology and methods for the logging, transport and handling of wood from the forest to the industry in Sweden. Wood as an energy source forms another part of the course. Work study is a major constituent of the course and is carried out as a project work on real life problems in forestry or a forest industry.

Contents
The course includes the following areas:

  • Historical overview of industrial forestry in Sweden
  • Swedish systems for silviculture, logging and transportation
  • The planning of operations
  • Work Science, Ergonomics and Work Study
  • Project work

Teaching methods
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars and individual tutorials. The teaching also includes project work in contact with industry.

Recommended reading
The examiner together with the student decides on the literature, approx. 200 pages.

Assessment methods
The examination is based partly on the project work and partly on a written or oral test concluding the course. Additional opportunities will be given to students who do not pass the examination successfully.

Prerequisites
One year’s study within forest and wood engineering. Working knowledge of English including basic terms of trade in forestry and forest operations.
