GRS266 - Teaching Practice/Perspectives on Education

October 9–November 17, 2006
Advanced Undergraduate Level
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)

During the Autumn Semester it will be possible to combine different courses with Teaching Practice/Perspectives on Education, 5 credit points (7.5 ECTS).

The opportunity to practise is given to trainee teachers within Pre-school, Primary, Secondary and Upper Secondary educational settings. The course also includes group discussions and seminars where reflections and different perspectives on education are penetrated.

Contents
The purpose of this course is to:

  • give a basic understanding and knowledge of the Swedish educational system
  • give the opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge and practical learning in a concrete situation and one or a couple of different Swedish classrooms/educational settings
  • provide opportunities to discuss and reflect on the concept of education from the students’ own point of view
  • provide possibilities for the student to compare, and reflect on differences between the Swedish educational system and the school system known by the student.

The choice of school, age of pupils, and focus of subjects will be decided in consultation with the coordinator.

Prerequisites
At least one year of studies in a teacher training college or university.

Assessment methods
In addition to the demand for active participation in the programme and continuous study of the course literature, the students will be given both oral and written examinations, and are required to complete all exercises successfully.


GRS267 - Internship/Extended School Practice

Two weeks during November–December, 2006
Advanced Undergraduate Level
3 credit points (4.5 ECTS)

The aim of this course is to:

  • give an opportunity for the student to learn more about the Swedish school system through school practice
  • provide an opportunity to develop, in consultation with a supervisor, the ability to plan and carry out sequences of teaching within a chosen field.

PEA265 - Educational and Cultural Aspects on Identity, Integration and Socialisation

September 4–October 6, 2006
Undergraduate Level
5 credit points (7.5 ECTS)

This is a course within the Swedish Teacher Education programme where the first 5 credit points are given in English and are open to exchange students. This 5-point course deals with the role of culture from an educational perspective. You will be given opportunities to discuss and reflect on your own cultural and educational background.

You will have possibilities to compare your own educational system in an international perspective.

Diversity, multicultural and intercultural issues are also focused on. The participants are expected to make the course an on-going experience and the learning process will mainly be based on workshops, discussions, cooperative activities, seminars in small groups and other activities concerning interactive models of learning.

Prerequisites
We expect that you have had at least one year of university studies. You should be able to speak English fluently, and to read and write university level texts in English.
